Engineers Without Borders- Sri Lanka
Engineers Without Borders, Sri Lanka (EWB - SL) is a non-profit social services organization established in 2011, with diversified potential engineers in the country. We aim to uplift the living standards of disadvantaged communities in the country and the world with advanced sustainable engineering solutions applicable to social and community development projects.
Vision
To provide sustainable engineering solutions and the expertise and knowledge to aid disadvantaged communities in uplifting their living standards and enlightening society.
Mission
EWB, Sri Lanka works with disadvantaged communities in the country to uplift their living standards, through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects, by proactively helping people in need. We become more socially aware and responsible, developing ourselves and inspiring others in similar endeavors. In addition, EWB, Sri Lanka extends its cooperation to other similar humanitarian organizations in Sri Lanka and works in partnership with global partners in sharing resources and knowledge.

Our Objectives
1. Prevention and alleviation of poverty through sustainable engineering solutions.
2. Contribute to meeting the SDGs through capacity building in local projects.
3. Enhancing social well-being among needy Sri Lankan communities.
4. Guiding disadvantaged communities to access resources for the advancement of financial and environmental sustainability.
5. Advancement of education related to engineering skills.
6. Creating synergy between members while developing a new generation of global engineers who are solution-oriented situational leaders to address the national and global burning issues.
7. Develop partnerships with other EWB chapters through collaborative community projects and strive to build a better and sustainable nation and a world for future generations.
8. Training and connecting engineering professionals and students around Sri Lanka.
President Details
Prof. Ranjith Dissanayake is an Emeritus professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya. Currently, working attached to the Curtin Colombo. He is a Fulbright Scholar in the USA, an Endeavour Fellow in Australia, and JASSO Research Fellow in Japan. He was awarded the Young Scientist Award in 2007 for Excellence in Scientific Research by the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) of Sri Lanka. Recently, he was awarded the National Educator Awards 2024 in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of education. He received the Overseas Prize of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the UK in 2007 and the Australia Alumni Excellence Award in 2012. He has published over 200 papers and chaired more than ten international conferences. He is the Immediate past President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the immediate past Chairman of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL), and a Vice President of the Chamber of Construction Industry (CCI). He is also the former Secretary to the State Ministry of Rural Roads and the State Ministry of Urban Development. He is the founder of gap HQ, the base of operation of several companies, including Lego International (Pvt.) Ltd, ICB (Pvt.) Ltd, Lanka AAC (Pvt) Ltd, GAP (Pvt) Ltd, and Wrangler Solutions (Pvt) Ltd. He is co-chairing the 16th International Conference on Sustainable Built Environment at Kandy, the 2nd International Conference on University-industry Collaborations for Sustainable Development, and the 2nd International Conference on Biomimicry for Sustainability at Colombo.
President's Message
Welcome to the EWB-SL website. We represent the Sri Lankan membership of the EWB worldwide network. we are embarking on an exciting venture establishing EWB-SL, here in Sri Lanka and we are excited to work towards people’s passion and skills to alleviate global poverty by empowering communities to make great strides towards sustainability, economic independence, and a better way of life.
EWBSL aims at the disadvantaged communities in the country and provides them with educational needs, sustainable engineering projects, social projects, and community projects to uplift the living conditions of the needs. Engineers Without Borders Sri Lanka supports social projects through collaboration with other institutes addressing burning issues in sanitation, water, energy, recourse, and waste management while providing experience to student and professional engineers to transform themselves into socially aware responsible leaders.
This web page is not just one method to find the communication between our organization and EWB international, but it is also the method to find out the co-operate extensions of EWB-SL to other similar humanitarian organizations in Sri Lanka and their local and global partnerships.
